More and more Poles heading for railways
Poland’s new PKP railway timetable highlights a major transformation of passenger rail, with demand growing faster than expected and trains increasingly competing with cars. According to Deputy Infrastructure Minister Piotr Malepszak, a record number of trains now operate on the Polish network. The new schedule, in force since mid-December, offers 527 daily services, rising to 555 in peak season – significantly more than in previous years. Faster travel times and more frequent connections, including restored routes to cities such as Ciechocinek and Gorzów Wielkopolski, have boosted passenger numbers.
PKP Intercity alone expects to carry around 89 million passengers this year, well above earlier forecasts. Investments in new and high-speed rolling stock aim to support further growth and strengthen rail as a viable alternative to road transport.
