Maria Żodzik Wins Silver at World Championships in High Jump

Poland’s Maria Żodzik made history at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo by winning the silver medal in the women’s high jump. Żodzik set a new personal best, clearing 2 meters, and became only the second Polish woman to ever reach this milestone. The 24-year-old athlete’s breakthrough performance brought Poland its first medal of the championships.
The gold went to Australia’s Nicola Olyslagers, who also jumped 2 m but secured the title thanks to a flawless series of attempts. Żodzik recorded one earlier failure at 1.88 m, which proved decisive in the final standings. The bronze medal was shared by Serbia’s Angelina Topic and Ukraine’s Yaroslava Mahuchikh, the current world record holder, both achieving 1.97 m.
Żodzik’s silver is seen as a career-defining moment. Until recently a promising talent, she has now firmly established herself among the world’s high jump elite. Her progression through the competition was marked by confidence and composure, qualities praised by commentators and fellow athletes alike.
