Newag kills Siemens deal on high-speed trains
Polish rolling-stock manufacturer Newag has abruptly terminated its partnership agreement with Siemens Mobility over the supply of high-speed trains for national rail operator PKP Intercity. The memorandum of understanding, signed in January 2026, had envisioned joint delivery of 20 electric trainsets capable of at least 320 km/h — central to Poland's planned High-Speed Rail line. Newag said in a stock exchange filing that the two sides had failed to agree on the detailed terms of their cooperation, making continued collaboration under the current framework impossible. The Polish manufacturer stressed it remains interested in the tender either directly or through a new arrangement. The break-up throws the timeline for Poland's high-speed rail ambitions into fresh uncertainty, as Newag did not independently meet the procurement's qualification criteria.
