Prices in Poland closing in on Western Europe
Poland is rapidly closing the price gap with Western Europe, according to the Polish Economic Institute. In 2015, the average consumer basket in Poland cost just under 58% of the EU average, compared with 73.3% in 2025. The process accelerated in 2020-2025, driven mainly by rising food, energy and service prices. Higher wages also pushed up labor costs, especially in services. Gas and electricity prices nearly doubled, while services such as hairdressing, dental care and home renovation rose by almost 70%. Despite this, Poland remains one of the EU’s cheapest countries, with only Romania and Bulgaria recording lower price levels.
PIE says deeper EU market integration and rising productivity are gradually bringing Polish prices closer to Western European levels.
