55% of Poles unable to buy apartment that meets their needs
Most Poles do not believe they can afford a home that meets their actual needs, according to a survey commissioned by PFR Nieruchomości. Some 55% said they could not purchase a suitable property even with a mortgage. The main barriers were high housing prices, cited by 61% of respondents, followed by expensive mortgage financing at 32% and insufficient creditworthiness at 27%.
PFR Nieruchomości argues that professional long-term rentals could provide greater stability and affordability as homeownership becomes less accessible. Poland still has a high homeownership rate of 87%, but economic pressures may gradually move the country closer to Western European rental models. The survey covered 1,087 adults in May 2026.
