Energy prices increase in Poland, placing 2nd place in Europe

Energy prices in Europe rose in September after summer declines, with Poland seeing one of the steepest increases—up 18.6% month-on-month to €106.93/MWh, second only to Italy. The European SPOT average reached €80.63/MWh, up 8.3%. Experts from Energy Solutions attribute the rise to higher post-holiday demand, weaker winds, and lower renewable output, forcing greater reliance on costlier conventional sources. In Poland, coal’s share rose by one percentage point, while solar and wind fell by the same margin. CO₂ emission allowances also increased 3.7% to around €80/t, their highest since February 2025, driven by corporate purchases and investor activity.
Meanwhile, European gas markets remained stable, and coal prices continued to decline, reaching their lowest level since February 2024.
