GUS: Employment has fallen, wages no longer growing

In February, average employment in Poland’s enterprise sector fell to 6.45 million jobs, down 0.9% y/y, while average gross monthly wages rose by 7.9% to PLN 8,613.14, according to Statistics Poland (GUS). Employment dropped by 7,000 jobs—more than typical for the season—mainly due to production cuts and restructuring, particularly in export-driven firms. However, economists expect employment to rebound as the economy strengthens in upcoming quarters.
Wage growth has slowed, ending a period of double-digit increases seen in recent years. Experts attribute this to reduced inflation, smaller increases in the minimum wage, and lower wage pressure. Only a few service sectors still experience double-digit pay growth, such as utilities and support services.
