Family foundations gaining popularity, more entrepreneurs planning succession
Family foundations are becoming increasingly popular in Poland, with several thousand established in just two years since the 2023 law came into force. They allow entrepreneurs to organize assets and ensure business continuity regardless of family disputes. More founders are now active business owners aged 40–55, not only retirees. Experts stress that a family foundation is not a business structure, but a tool for asset protection and long-term succession. Common mistakes include setting up foundations hastily or transferring only part of assets.
From September 2025, new rules will introduce a three-year waiting period before selling contributed assets. Successful succession requires careful planning, open family communication, and cooperation with legal and tax advisors.
