Local governments want 500+ and 14th pension to go only to vaccinated people
Local government officials propose that the payment of funds from the 500 plus program should be provided only for children of vaccinated people, and the 14th pension only for vaccinated seniors, as established by Radio ZET reporter Maciej Sztykiel. The proposal was made at the meeting of the Joint Commission of the Government and Local Government.
"This is extra money, in the case of the 14th pension there is already a condition that excludes a certain group of pensioners earning above a certain threshold, so why not introduce another condition? I realize that this is a controversial solution, but I see no reason to avoid this topic if we are to effectively protect ourselves against Covid-19," Marek Wójcik, representative of the board of the Association of Polish Cities told Radio ZET.
According to the radio station, another proposal from local government officials is to conduct a covid balance in people 60 plus. This would be dealt with by POZ centers.
"We would really have knowledge of the health needs of these people after the pandemic, and by the way, there would be a chance to ask if they would like to vaccinate," Wójcik said.
Currently, in practice, in Poland, there are no special benefits for vaccinated people, apart from e.g. not counting towards the limits at events such as weddings or communions. There are also no government-imposed restrictions on the use of various services for the unvaccinated, and such restrictions exist in other EU countries.
"At the moment, we have about 48 percent of adult Poles who have either registered for the first dose of the vaccine or have already taken the first dose," Michał Dworczyk, the head of the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, said.
At the same time, he admitted that this percentage is significantly different from the data resulting from the research.
So far, 17,254,902 vaccinations against COVID-19 have been carried out in Poland. 5,222,430 people are fully vaccinated.
