Min of Health: there is too much alcohol in Poland, and it harms health

Deputy Health Minister Wojciech Konieczny has proposed replacing the current healthcare contribution system with a special tax, arguing that the current funding model is ineffective and unequal across economic sectors.
Regarding alcohol policy, the Ministry of Health is pushing for stricter regulations to reduce social and health-related costs, estimated at PLN 80-90 billion annually. Poland has one alcohol sales point per 303 residents, fueling high consumption. Inspired by Lithuania, which saw a 75% drop in fatal car accidents after limiting alcohol availability, the ministry proposes six regulations, including banning small alcohol containers, online alcohol sales, and aggressive promotions. However, some ministries oppose restrictions, citing economic concerns. Negotiations are ongoing to finalize the regulations.
