Min of State Assets to meet with ArcelorMittal about future of company in Europe

Minister of State Assets Wojciech Balczun announced plans to meet soon with representatives of ArcelorMittal to discuss the company’s future presence in Europe. Speaking at a press conference, he noted that discussions would cover the steel giant’s strategic plans and its potential continuation or withdrawal from the European market. Asked whether Poland might seek to acquire ArcelorMittal’s steel assets, Balczun said this would depend on available funds and corporate decisions, as the company operates autonomously.
ArcelorMittal is Poland’s largest steel producer, accounting for nearly 50% of national output and employing about 9,000 people across plants in Silesia, Lesser Poland, and Opole. It is also Europe’s largest coke producer.
