Offshore wind is new pillar of Polish industry
Poland’s offshore wind sector is entering a crucial phase and is increasingly seen not just as an energy project, but as a cornerstone of national industrial policy. After successful offshore auctions in 2025, Poland emerged as one of Europe’s leaders in the sector, alongside the UK, while many other EU countries struggled. The government is now preparing another amendment to offshore wind legislation to align with new EU industrial rules, regulate compensation for fishermen, and clarify labor rules for offshore workers.
Industry experts stress that stable regulations are essential to attract financing and avoid legal uncertainty before the next auction in 2027. Offshore wind is expected to become a major part of Poland’s energy mix, with 4.5 GW planned by 2030, helping stabilize and lower electricity prices. Executives from PGE Baltica and Ørsted Polska argued that offshore development should also strengthen Polish industry, ports, and supply chains. They emphasized “local content” policies that support domestic companies through knowledge-sharing and international partnerships, rather than simply meeting quota targets.
