Otodom report: how men make decisions about buying an apartment is changing
According to Otodom’s report “Male Faces of Happiness”, changing models of masculinity are reshaping how men in Poland approach housing decisions. A home is increasingly seen not as a status symbol, but as a base for daily life, family relationships, and security amid economic uncertainty. Men more often link housing choices to social roles such as involved fatherhood, caregiving for relatives, and active participation in local communities, which affects location, size, and financing decisions.
Men feel less pressure to move than women and are more rooted in local ties, valuing supportive neighbors and shared values. Fatherhood is a key turning point: 81% say it fundamentally changes how they think about housing. At the same time, mortgages are a major psychological burden—70% of men report stress linked to housing debt.
The report also highlights often-overlooked male caregivers living with parents or partners out of responsibility, not immaturity, pointing to a broader shift toward relational, care-oriented definitions of masculinity and “home.”
