PIE: €7.7 billion trade deficit in 2025; imports grew faster than exports
Poland recorded its first foreign trade deficit in two years in 2025, totaling 7.7 billion euro, according to the Polish Economic Institute. Exports rose by nearly 4% after a previous slowdown, but imports grew faster, by over 6%, driven by stronger domestic demand and rising deliveries from developing countries, especially China.
Despite higher US tariffs, Polish exports to the United States fell by only 0.1%, partly due to stockpiling earlier in the year. Germany remained Poland’s top trade partner, although its share in exports dropped below 27%. Imports from China surged more than 13%, led by machinery and cars. Analysts warn that faster export growth is unlikely due to global trade tensions and moderate EU demand.
