Poland is exploring ways to increase electricity supplies to Ukraine this winter, given the war-related damage to Ukraine's power infrastructure, announced Minister of Industry Marzena Czarnecka. Current EU regulations allow up to 1,700 MW of electricity export from EU countries to Ukraine and Moldova, allocated among Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and Hungary. If this capacity isn't fully used, Ukraine's transmission system operator, Ukrenergo, could request emergency support. Poland may provide emergency electricity or negotiate long-term supply contracts, pending approval from the European Commission and alignment with EU regulations. The aid's volume will depend on power needs, support duration, and available capacity. The cost will reflect both production and transmission expenses.
