Poland Named Top Beneficiary of New EU Budget, but Uncertainty Remains

Poland is set to receive over €123 billion under the proposed EU Multiannual Financial Framework for 2028–2034, making it the largest beneficiary among all member states, according to government spokesperson Adam Szłapka. The announcement follows the unveiling of the historic €2 trillion budget plan by the European Commission.
“This is the most ambitious EU budget ever. Poland stands out with over €123 billion in allocations,” said Szłapka during a briefing in Brussels.
However, the proposal has sparked criticism in the European Parliament, particularly over planned cuts to cohesion and agricultural funding. Spending on these pillars would drop from €387 billion to around €300 billion, prompting resistance from key political factions.
Although EU Budget Commissioner Piotr Serafin highlighted Poland’s strategic priorities– security, defense, innovation, and rural policy – the final shape of the budget remains uncertain.
Poland now enters negotiations aiming to secure even more favorable terms. The proposal requires approval from all 27 member states and the European Parliament.
