Tusk: there will be stricter regulations to follow on alcohol sales

Polish politicians agree that alcohol is too easily accessible and new regulations are needed. Prime Minister Donald Tusk criticized Warsaw’s refusal to adopt a citywide night sales ban, calling such limits a step toward greater public safety and urging the capital to follow cities like Gdańsk, Wrocław, Olsztyn, and Kraków, where restrictions already exist. Instead, Warsaw plans a pilot ban in two districts—Śródmieście and Praga-Północ—starting in 2026.
The issue has reignited debate in parliament. Polska 2050 and Lewica are preparing separate bills to restrict alcohol sales and advertising, criticizing the government’s inaction. Supporters argue bans reduce police interventions and violence, while critics warn restrictions merely shift problems elsewhere. For now, nationwide regulation would require new legislation, leaving decisions largely to local authorities.
