President of the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK) Tomasz Chróstny approved the takeover of PHZ Baltona by Przedsiębiorstwo Państwowe Porty Lotnicze (PPL). According to the office, the transaction will not lead to a restriction of competition.
UOKiK pointed out that PPL manages or co-controls seven airports in Poland, and its subsidiaries also provide, among others, ground handling or security controls for travelers and luggage. Baltona mainly deals with the rental and operation of shops and restaurants at airports.
The Office added that there are vertical links between entrepreneurs, so they do not compete with each other.
"Airports, when signing agreements with store tenants, are not limited to entrepreneurs from one country. This means that after the transaction, PPL will continue to compete for tenants with other airports in Europe or the world,” UOKiK added.
