WIG nears record high
Trading on the Warsaw Stock Exchange delivered fresh milestones on Wednesday, with the broad-market WIG index touching an intraday high of 128,173 points before closing slightly lower at 127,584, up 0.08 percent.
It was also a standout day for exchange-traded funds, which logged a record PLN 60.79 million in turnover, according to the exchange.
Blue chips led gains. The WIG20 climbed 0.47 percent to 3,457.14 points. Turnover in WIG20 constituents reached nearly PLN 2.27 billion, while total turnover across the WIG approached PLN 2.77 billion, data from Dom Maklerski BOŚ showed. The benchmark now sits just 0.75 percent below the 3,500-point psychological threshold, a level analysts say could be tested this week.
Launched in 1991 at 1,000 points, the total-return WIG tracks all eligible main-market companies, factoring in both share prices and dividends. Meanwhile, drone maker WB Electronics is considering a potential IPO.
