Baltic Sea has become geopolitically turbulent and increasingly active
Growing geopolitical tensions have turned the Baltic Sea into an area of hybrid threats, including sabotage of infrastructure and GPS signal disruptions, though maritime trade continues without major disruption. Experts stress that the real security challenge lies in ports, which are now part of national security systems rather than purely commercial assets. Polish ports, especially Gdańsk, are investing heavily in physical, cyber, and operational security, dual-use infrastructure, and crisis-management capabilities.
Logistics firms face rising costs driven not by physical danger, but by market unpredictability, sanctions, and disrupted supply chains, which have undermined just-in-time models. Increasing attention is also being paid to ownership structures, as foreign access to port assets can influence data, decision-making, and supply chains. In this environment, security has become a key factor of competitiveness, resilience, and investor trust.
