Disinformation Surges Ahead of Poland’s 2025 Election

As Poland’s 2025 presidential election nears, disinformation is rapidly spreading online. While public awareness is growing, many Poles still struggle to verify information, especially on social media, Marcel Kiełtyka, board member at Demagog, Poland’s first fact-checking NGO, said.
“We don’t know the tools and can’t navigate the information space consciously,” he explained.
A 2024 report co-authored by Demagog revealed that 91 percent of Poles agreed with at least one of 30 false statements. With the election approaching, false narratives – often pushed by politicians or foreign actors – are intensifying.
Demagog is monitoring influence operations targeting Poland’s infosphere. These include harmful narratives about Ukraine, NATO, and the EU, aiming to erode trust and destabilize public debate.
“Our strongest weapon is a critical mind – being skeptical of emotional content, even if it aligns with our views,” Kiełtyka emphasized, urging Poles to think twice before sharing information online.
