Quiet, green places with clean air more important than city center for Poles
Only 8% of Poles would choose to live in a downtown area even with an unlimited budget. Quiet, green places with clean air are far more appealing.
In Q1 2026, developers started 30.9k homes, down 15.5% y/y, according to Statistics Poland. Most projects were in the Mazowieckie and Małopolskie regions. At the same time, housing preferences are clearly shifting toward nature and calmer surroundings.
Residents of Podlasie are most attached to where they live at 76%, while Zachodniopomorskie is lowest at 59%. If money were no object, 20% would pick a quiet neighborhood in a large city, 10% the seaside, and few would move abroad.
Overall, 78% rate access to greenery as the top feature, while air quality remains a major concern, especially in southern regions.
