EU inspects Temu operations
EU competition officials have carried out a surprise inspection at Temu’s European headquarters in Dublin, Bloomberg reports, citing unofficial sources. The raid, conducted last week, is linked to concerns that the Chinese e-commerce platform may have benefited from prohibited state support from Beijing.
A European Commission spokesperson confirmed an “unannounced inspection at the premises of an e-commerce company,” without identifying the firm.
The move marks another use of the EU’s strengthened enforcement tools aimed at curbing foreign financial influence that could distort the bloc’s internal market. Brussels has increasingly turned to the Foreign Subsidies Regulation to scrutinize Chinese involvement in strategic sectors, including rail and clean energy.
The Temu inspection suggests regulators are extending this oversight to fast-growing digital platforms whose rapid expansion may be underpinned by unfair advantages.
