Expert: Polish construction companies have small chance at getting contracts in Ukraine
Cezary Kaźmierczak, head of the Union of Entrepreneurs and Employers, says Polish construction firms have limited chances of winning major contracts in the reconstruction of eastern Ukraine. In his view, rebuilding war-damaged areas will be a political process controlled by Kyiv, international institutions, major funds and large foreign corporations, rather than an open market. Polish companies may instead compete for smaller regional construction contracts. He argues that most of Ukraine has not been destroyed and needs modernization rather than reconstruction.
However, Polish business has already achieved major success in Ukraine, especially in food, finance, fuel and building materials. Poland is Ukraine’s second-largest trading partner, with exports worth about €15 bln annually and a large trade surplus.
