Trade between Poland and Ukraine has surged in recent years, significantly accelerated by Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Since 2021, Poland’s exports to Ukraine have more than doubled, reaching €9.4 billion in the first three quarters of 2024, up from €6.3 billion in 2021, according to the Polish Economic Institute (PIE). Ukraine now accounts for 3.6% of Poland’s exports, compared to 2.1% in 2021, making it Poland's seventh-largest export market.
Key export items include fuels, vehicles, machinery, weapons, and defense-related products. Even excluding war-related categories, exports remain 30% higher than pre-war levels. PIE highlighted the need to upgrade transport infrastructure to support this growing trade and emphasized that EU-Ukraine integration could further benefit Poland economically.
