Fujitsu turns Madrid into smart city

In the next 30 years, as many as 2/3 of the population will reside in urban space. It is surprising, as now every third inhabitant of the city wants to change its location. The answer to many challenges faced by urban communities is an intelligent solution that promising cities are increasingly willing to face, thus becoming smart cities. The Fujitsu brand is responsible for the digital transformation of one such region – Madrid.
Worldwide Smart Cities forecasts indicated that in 2020, spending on smart city initiatives will amount to as much as $124 billion. Investment forecasts for 2022 are at $158 billion. Certainly, in the coming years, cities will invest even greater amounts in innovative projects, the main task of which is to improve the quality of life, improve communication in urban space, increase safety and ecology.
The 6.5 million inhabitants of the Madrid Region will be embraced by a digital transformation that will introduce, develop and expand new Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in this area. The project partner is the Fujitsu brand, whose task will be to plan, analyze and design the process, implement solutions in stages and manage new technologies.
The aim of this project, on the part of Fujitsu, is primarily to define and build an ICT infrastructure as well as to scale and manage it over the next few years. The introduction of solutions based on information and communication technologies is primarily intended to facilitate citizens' access to public services. As a result, innovative, efficient, and safe services for regional government departments will be implemented. New technologies will become the basis for solutions enabling effective management and provision of public services.
Madrid Digital, the Madrid Digital Administration Agency, has entered into a three-year contract with Fujitsu, with an option to extend it for another two years.
