Government asks PKP Intercity to lower railway ticket prices

At the beginning of the year, railway operator PKP Intercity increased ticket prices by more than 17% for its high-speed trains EIP and EIC, and by 11.8% for cheaper alternatives, TLK and IC. The government was surprised by the scale of price growth and plans to provide PKP Intercity with subsidies so that the company lowers the ticket prices, DGP reports citing a source in the Chancellery of the Prime Minister.
The carrier could get up to PLN 300 million on the condition that railway tickets will be cheaper already in January.
