Gowin: Polish Deal will raise taxes for millions of Poles
The Polish Deal, which has been promoted for several weeks by Law and Justice politicians touring Poland, has encountered a serious obstacle. There are not enough votes to get it through parliament because in its current form it is opposed by the coalition party Porozumienie. Its leader openly admitted that the proposed changes would make “millions of hard-working Poles” pay higher taxes, writes Business Insider Polska.
The deputy prime minister, and also the minister of development, labor, and technology, is the first member of the government to openly confirm what experts and journalists have been pointing out since the details of the Polish deal were presented. The new solutions will make many Poles start to pay higher public levies.
Jaroslaw Gowin admitted on Polsat News that he knows and “in the vast majority” supports the solutions from the Polish Deal, but he does not agree with the changes to the contribution and tax system in its current form.
“We do not accept the current proposals of the Ministry of Finance, because they would mean not that the rich will be taxed higher, because this can be considered, but that millions of hard-working Poles will pay higher taxes”, said Gowin. He said that he was the one who proposed changes to the Polish Law, which assumes that those employed on a contract of employment will not pay higher taxes if their earnings do not exceed 13 thousand zlotys gross per month.
