Grupa Azoty under presure from Russian imports, Brussels raises tariffs

Grupa Azoty is under financial pressure due to the influx of cheap Russian and Belarusian fertilisers. In response, the Polish government led a diplomatic effort that prompted the EU to raise tariffs. As of 1 July 2025, nitrogen fertilisers from the East face a 6.5% base tariff and additional duties rising to €430 per tonne by 2028. Despite ongoing losses, Azoty’s recovery plan—launched in 2024—shows some improvement, especially in the agro segment.
The company aims to achieve positive EBITDA in 2025. However, success depends on leveraging this tariff protection to regain competitiveness. Meanwhile, Grupa Azoty is in talks with PKN Orlen over a potential sale of Polimery Police, which could significantly impact the future of Poland’s chemical sector.
