GUS: Poland’s GDP up despite weaker consumption

In Q1 2025, Poland’s GDP grew by 3.2% y/y, slightly below the 3.4% recorded in Q4 2024. q/q growth slowed to 0.7% from 1.4%. According to Statistics Poland (GUS), private consumption rose by 2.5% y/y, domestic demand by 4.6%, and investments surprised positively with a 6.3% increase, far exceeding forecasts. Economists attribute this mainly to public—possibly defense—spending, as private sector investment showed weakness.
Inventory changes added 1.5 percentage points to GDP growth, while net exports reduced it by 1.1 points. Despite a slowdown in consumption, it remains the main growth driver. Analysts note that the economy continues on a steady growth path, with public investment playing a key supporting role.
