Burning household waste in stoves or fireplaces is illegal and contributes to smog, which is linked to respiratory and cardiovascular disease. Prohibited materials include plastics, textiles, tires, diapers, furniture boards, treated wood and old furniture. Residents should take such waste to municipal collection points. Suspected burning can be reported to municipal or city guards, where available, or to local authorities. A ticket can generally reach PLN 500, while a court may impose a fine of up to PLN 5,000 or arrest.

Black or irritating smoke may raise concern, but its color alone cannot prove waste burning. Drone measurements can help identify properties for inspection, but may not establish what was burned.
