Levi's to Shut Down Płock Factory, Hundreds to Lose Jobs

Levi Strauss & Co., a prominent American clothing manufacturer famous for its denim products, will close its production plant in Płock, Poland, by mid-June 2024. Established in 1992, the factory represented one of the first Western investments in the city following the fall of communism. The decision, attributed to escalating production costs and labor market conditions, marks the end of an era for the iconic jeans manufacturer. With nearly 650 employees reportedly working at the Płock plant, the closure is expected to result in significant job losses. Levi's cited the need to adapt to changing operational landscapes, emphasizing agility and long-term strategic goals amid challenges such as high inflation and energy costs. The decision came as a surprise to local authorities, including Płock's mayor, Andrzej Nowakowski.
