Lukashenko: we have no illusions about a quick resumption of dialogue with Poland

Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko stated that Belarus has no illusions about quickly resuming dialogue with Poland following Karol Nawrocki’s election as Poland’s president. In an interview with Razwiedczik, he said Belarusians and Poles “are not enemies” and stressed, “We are open to dialogue. We should build bridges, not walls.”
Lukashenko criticized Poland and the Baltic states for withdrawing from the Ottawa Convention banning anti-personnel mines and for increasing NATO defense spending, claiming Belarus has no aggressive intentions and prefers “tractors, not tanks.”
Since 2021, Belarus has been accused of destabilizing the Polish border by sending migrants from Asia and Africa. In response, Poland has strengthened border defenses and is expanding them under the “Eastern Shield” project.
