Mines not ready to supply construction aggregate for large scale construction sites

Polish aggregate producers are raising alarms over a looming shortage of construction materials vital for massive infrastructure projects like the Central Communication Port (CPK), road and rail development, and defense. Authorities lack precise estimates of required volumes, while existing quarries face capacity limits and new operations are stalled by lengthy administrative procedures—often taking 5 to 8 years. Supply bottlenecks are also expected in transport, especially via rail.
From 2028 to 2032, peak demand is forecasted at 16–20 million tons annually, with CPK alone requiring nearly 56 million tons. Rising prices, limited logistics capacity, and environmental or legal barriers may delay projects. Experts warn of potential illegal mining and call for systemic reforms and increased use of recycled materials.
