In 2025, nearly 197,000 sole proprietorships (JDG) were deregistered in Poland, while 288,800 new businesses were registered, matching 2024’s startup figure but marking a 4.1% rise in closures y/y. In seven regions, closures exceeded new registrations. Additionally, 388,100 businesses were suspended, up 3.3% from 2024.

Experts warn that although the increase in closures is not dramatic, it signals mounting pressure on small entrepreneurs due to rising labor, energy, and accounting costs, growing competition, and legal instability. Many firms face shrinking margins and financial strain. While suspensions often reflect temporary difficulties rather than permanent exits, the combined number of closures and suspensions in 2025 significantly exceeded new registrations, pointing to stabilization but worsening operating conditions for Poland’s smallest businesses.
