Poland aims for gas hub

Deputy Energy Minister Wojciech Wrochna declared that Poland is on track to become a regional gas hub, with the first results expected soon. He confirmed talks with U.S. Secretary of Energy Chris Wright on replacing Russian supplies with American LNG, delivered through Świnoujście and, in the future, an FSRU terminal in Gdańsk. Wrochna stressed that Poland could achieve what “governments have failed to do for many years”—secure lasting energy independence and build regional transit capacity.
Poland already operates a cross-border connection with Slovakia, enabling annual flows of 5.7 bcm toward Poland and 4.7 bcm in the opposite direction. Following its merger with PGNiG, Orlen now leads the domestic gas market, while Gaz-System runs transmission.
Energy Minister Miłosz Motyka added that Poland is free of Russian fuels and urged the EU to jointly end Russian oil imports by 2026 to strengthen Europe’s energy sovereignty.
