Poland’s homeownership among highest in Europe
According to the Polish Economic Institute (PIE), Poland has one of the highest rates of homeownership in Europe, with a greater percentage than the EU average. PIE analysts noted the large proportion of homes built before the 1990s and a high percentage of young people living with their parents.
The ownership rate ranges from 69% (for one adult with
children) to 94% (for three or more adults with children). PIE suggests
that the high rate of homeownership should not be considered
satisfactory due to the age of homes in Poland, with most built during
the 1990s. PIE also noted that the limited availability of housing is one of
the main reasons why 49% of people aged 18-34 in Poland live with their
parents.
