Rare earth separation plant in Puławy among 47 strategic EC companies

The European Commission has selected two Polish projects among 47 strategic initiatives aimed at reducing the EU’s reliance on critical raw material imports, particularly from China. Elemental Battery Metals' POLVOLT recycling project will recover nickel, copper, cobalt, lithium, manganese, and platinum group metals from batteries, while Mkango Polska's rare earth refinery in Puławy will ensure a stable supply of neodymium, essential for magnet production.
These projects support the EU’s Critical Raw Materials Act (CRMA), which aims to boost domestic extraction, processing, and recycling by 2030. The EU plans to increase mining by 10%, processing by 40%, and recycling by 25%, ensuring no single country controls more than 65% of supply. The total investment needed is €22.5 billion, with funding assistance from EU institutions.
