Regulations may be slowing down wind energy production
Poland’s ambitious plan to triple onshore wind capacity to 34.6 GW by 2040 is at risk, according to industry experts. Developers warn that strict spatial, environmental, military and grid restrictions leave less than 1% of the country available for new wind farms. Permitting alone can take 7–10 years. Meanwhile, planned investments could exceed PLN 200 billion, with around PLN 100 billion potentially staying in the domestic economy. The Polish Wind Energy Association urges fast legislative changes, citing Germany’s faster approvals and land allocation as a model.
The government says revisions to the renewable energy law are underway, but consultations are still ongoing, leaving uncertainty over whether targets can realistically be met.
