Tusk: Government estimates 80% of EU SAFE funds will go to national arms industry
The Polish government estimates that over 80% of funds allocated to Poland under the EU’s SAFE defence program will be spent domestically, primarily benefiting the national arms industry, Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced. He said the program will channel nearly PLN 200 billion in European funds into almost 30 projects, largely supporting Polish companies, including the Polish Armaments Group as well as public and private entities. The European Commission has approved a second group of national defence plans under the SAFE initiative, covering Poland and several other EU countries.
Earlier, the Ministry of National Defense stated that Poland will be the largest beneficiary of EU defence funding, receiving EUR 43.7 billion out of the EUR 150 billion allocated to security and defence across the Union.
