UOKiK impose PLN 34 mln fine on Orange for changing terms of contracts and fees
Urząd Ochrony Konkurencji i Konsumentów (UOKiK) has fined Orange Polska over PLN 34 million for violating consumer rights. The authority ruled that Orange unilaterally changed contract terms and unlawfully charged prepaid customers fees for maintaining a phone number during periods of inactivity, such as when accounts were not topped up. According to UOKiK, customers were not properly informed, undermining the core principles of prepaid services—freedom of use and protection from unexpected charges. The decision cites breaches of collective consumer interests and the use of prohibited contractual clauses.
Orange Polska provides mobile, fixed-line, internet, TV and VoIP services and has been listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange since 1998.
