Biedronka being investigated by UOKiK again over drivers and collusion

Poland’s antitrust authority (UOKiK) has accused Jeronimo Martins Polska (JMP), owner of Biedronka, and 32 partner transport companies of engaging in anti-competitive practices. The companies allegedly coordinated to prevent drivers from switching employers within the Biedronka logistics network, restricting job mobility and violating competition laws. JMP is suspected of organizing these agreements nationwide and enforcing them by denying access to drivers who changed jobs without prior employer consent.
The case involves 33 companies and 8 managers, with potential fines up to 10% of annual turnover or PLN 2 million per individual. This is not JMP’s first legal issue with UOKiK, which has previously imposed major fines related to supplier practices, product labeling, and misleading promotions. JMP denies wrongdoing and continues to appeal.
