MPK Kraków has begun operating its own hydrogen-powered buses. Ten Polish-made NesoBus vehicles, produced by PAK-PCE Polski Autobus Wodorowy, were presented on June 30 at the Płaszów bus depot and immediately entered service on routes 123, 148, 158, 162 and 307.

Each 12-meter bus can carry 88 passengers, including 29 seated, and is low-floor, air-conditioned and accessible to passengers with reduced mobility. The buses use 70 kW hydrogen fuel cells and can travel up to 450 km on one tank. One vehicle costs PLN 2.94 mln net.

Orlen Południe will supply the hydrogen. MPK expects to buy 51,840 kg over the next year, at a maximum estimated cost of around PLN 3.5 mln net. The agreement also includes a mobile refueling system until permanent infrastructure is ready.

The purchase received funding from the National Recovery Plan and the Green Public Transport program. With these buses, MPK Kraków now has 168 zero-emission buses, equal to 25% of its bus fleet.
