Norwegian-made remote-controlled weapon fails to meet Polish army standards
Poland’s military recommended Kongsberg’s Norwegian Protector RS4 weapons station for K2PL tanks after tests of a Polish alternative fell short of its requirements. In February tests, Zakłady Mechaniczne Tarnów’s A3B station achieved average hit rates of 26.7% at 500 meters, 10% at 1,000 meters and zero at 1,500 meters against a stationary target while firing from a stationary vehicle. The military expected more than 90%, 70% and 50%, respectively.
The A3B was tested as the basis for Tarnów’s planned A3K model, which was later presented in September. Kongsberg’s contract is worth NOK 700 mln, almost PLN 300 mln. Tarnów declined to disclose detailed test results, citing commercial confidentiality.
