Less than PLN 3 million for Polish medalists and their coaches will have to be paid by the Polish Olympic Committee. The biggest winners will be Polish sprinters who brought gold and silver medals in the relay race from Tokyo. Each of them will gain as much as PLN 150,000.
Poles in Tokyo stood on the podium 14 times, but more than twice as many medals came to the country. In many competitions, there were several athletes per one disc – members of the settlements, relay teams, or crews.
The total amount of prizes that the Committee will have to pay to the athletes is PLN 2.2 million. But that's not the end. Appropriate prizes are also waiting for the trainers of our medalists. If one coach is awarded for each medal won by Poland, the POC must take into account the expenditure of another PLN 565,000. Here, however, the specific amounts will also depend on the arrangements between the POC and individual sports associations.
Olympic medalists, apart from cash prizes, can also count on lifetime support from the state. The act on sport guarantees them the so-called Olympic retirement.
The United States, which is victorious in the medal standings – as reported by CNBC – pays $37,500 for the gold medal. This is the equivalent of approx. PLN 140,000, so not much more than in the case of Poland.
Undoubtedly, the greatest wealth came to Hidilyn Diaz, the first gold medalist from the Philippines in modern history. The weightlifter will receive $200,000 from the authorities and an additional 40 million pesos (about $ 00,000) from a nationwide drop for the national heroine of the island country. Diaz, who served in the army, was immediately promoted to the rank of staff sergeant. Sponsors provided her with free flights on the national airline, also funded a luxury car, and paid for fuel.
This is not the end. The representative of the Philippines will also get an apartment in the center of Manila and a second property for the summer, located in a seaside resort.
