Prices in stores slowing, food still getting more expensive
Everyday shopping in Poland was 2.7% more expensive in June than a year earlier, according to UCE Research and WSB Merito University. Price growth continued to slow from 3.4% in May and 3.7% in April. Food prices rose by just 1.9%, down from 2.4% in May and 3.3% in April.
The slowdown reflects lower agricultural purchase prices, greater seasonal supplies of domestic fruit and vegetables, and strong competition among discount chains. Retailers continue to use promotions on basic goods such as milk, butter, flour, oil, and meat to attract customers. However, experts warn that rising labor, regulatory, tax, service, energy, and logistics costs may still be passed on to consumers later.
