UOKiK intervenes in case of YouTubers exerting buying pressure on children
Poland’s competition authority, UOKiK, has opened proceedings against two gaming influencers accused of directly encouraging children to buy their products. Their YouTube and TikTok content combines Minecraft gameplay with repeated promotions for drinks, clothing, backpacks, school supplies, and other merchandise. Regulators say the creators may have used peer pressure, limited-time offers, and fear of missing out to influence young viewers, who may not recognize the commercial nature of the content.
This is UOKiK’s first case of this kind involving influencers. If the allegations are confirmed, the businesses could be fined up to 10% of their turnover, while a Wojan Group manager could face a penalty of up to PLN 2 mln.
