Poland looks for new markets to sell apples

Poland is looking for new export destinations for apples, including the countries in Africa and Asia, Minister of Agriculture Henryk Kowalczyk said. He noted that a good harvest of apples would be “a real problem” for farmers this year because eastern markets have been closed since spring. At the same time, he pointed out that competition among the EU apple producers is high.
Asked about prices, Kowalczyk said he hopes they would not be lower than the last season. According to him, apples that are not sold could be used to make apple concentrate or juice. The ministry will work on extending the processing season so that prices do not drop dramatically, he said.
