Polish firm targets US defense
VIGO Photonics, via its US subsidiary, has acquired assets of Florida-based InfraRed Associates, a long-established developer of cooled infrared detectors serving industry, science, and military clients across global markets.
The move is aimed at deeper entry into the US defense sector, where local manufacturing is essential to meet strict procurement requirements. CEO Adam Piotrowski stressed that while the deal should boost revenues, establishing a US production base is strategically critical.
InfraRed Associates reported stable results, with 2024 revenues of $8.9 million and adjusted operating profit of $1.44 million.
The acquisition was supported by Poland’s Foreign Expansion Fund (PFR), which provided $5.5 million in financing, alongside PKO Bank Polski loans totaling $3 million and €8 million, with KUKE guarantees.
Listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange, VIGO’s technology has been used by NASA, including in the Curiosity Mars mission.
