President Andrzej Duda signed an act sealing the trade ban. In this way, it will no longer be possible to open shops on Sundays using the "post office" method. The new regulations will come into force in three months. Already about 20 retail chains open shops on Sundays subject to the trade ban, mainly thanks to the possibility of operating in the form of post offices.

From 2022, i.e. the moment when the new regulations come into force, only shops that account for at least 40 percent in monthly income of the postal business will be able to open. The vast majority of stores do not meet this condition.

"The sealing of the act is good news for small shops – limiting the opening of shops operating as post offices on Sundays, in practice does not apply to small shops – because they are run by their owners who can open their shops on Sundays on their own or with the help of their family. However, competition from discounters and other large chains that are currently using this gap to open their stores on Sundays will be significantly reduced," Jan Domański, Eurocash spokesman, said.
